Four Blood Moons

“Teacher,” they asked, “When will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are about to take place?”  Luke 21:7

“There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars.  On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea.”  Luke 21:25

“The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.” Joel 2:31

I don’t know about you, but I am so glad that the disciples asked Jesus that question and I am thankful that Jesus gave His answer.   To paraphrase what the verses say above; Jesus said that there will be signs of the end time that will signal His coming.  These signs include changes or signals from our sun, moon, and stars.  God will use his creation to signal that our Lord is on His way; a grand entrance by our Savior.

I will say that after I read those verses, I remember contemplating what it meant that the sun will turn dark and the moon to blood.  I thought literally, that if the sun went dark, we would freeze to death for one, and what on earth does it mean to turn the moon to blood.  Surely the moon won’t turn into blood.

Sometime later I was given a book to read titled “The Four Blood Moons”, by John Hagee.  Now, I hadn’t listened to or watched John Hagee, and I don’t follow his ministry, but I was curious as to what this book was about.  I decided that if I read it, I can take away what I think is creditable, and leave the rest so to speak.  I read it and I found that John raised some very interesting ideas and connected some fascinating relationships.  As I read the book, I was reminded that God indeed communicates to us using the sun, moon, and stars.  Besides the verses above, we know that God placed a sign in the heavens announcing the birth of His son Jesus; the star that the wise men followed that lead them to Jesus.

When there is a lunar eclipse, the earth passes between the sun and the moon, causing the moon to be in the shadow of earth.  The sun light that passes through our atmosphere casts a “red” color over the moon, making the moon appear “blood red”.  This lunar eclipse is known as a blood moon.  A similar thing happens, as we are more accustom to seeing, a solar eclipse; this is when the moon passes between the earth and our sun.  The effect of a solar eclipse can make the sun appear black or dark.

shutterstock_146143619The last three series of four blood moons, with a solar eclipse, happened in the years 1492, 1948, and 1967.  Now, the amazing thing is that the last seven blood moons have occurred on the first day of major Jewish festivals Passover and Sukkot.  Not only did God create the blood moons on those exact days, but major events surrounding Israel happened during these series of blood moons.

In 1492 – the Spanish Inquisition; this event was a ruling by the king & queen of Spain giving a specific date that all Jews should leave the country or face death.  These Jews had to leave everything behind and just move out of the country; they lost their possessions.

In 1948 – the nation of Israel was created, just after the end of the Second World War.  This event was the end of the diaspora, or the biblical spreading of Jews all over the world.  In 1948 they began coming together again as a nation, just as the bible said they would.

In 1967 – the infamous six day war was won by Israel.  Literally, Israel was surrounded by hostile Arabic armies with the intention of driving the Jews into the sea.  Israel was outnumbered, and had far less military might than the surrounding armies, yet God was victorious in just six days.  The outcome was that Israel gained control of Jerusalem, as we hear in the news now, the Palestinians want “their” Jerusalem back.

Passover celebrates the deliverance of the Jewish people from slavery in Egypt.  Sukkah is a remembrance of the type of fragile dwellings in which the Israelite’s dwelt during their 40 years of travel in the desert after the Exodus from slavery in Egypt; this is one of three biblicaly mandated festivals.

What’s Next!

The next series of four blood moons, with a solar eclipse in the mix, will begin on April 15, 2014…this year!  Yes, you guessed it, the first day of Jewish Passover.  The second blood moon will happen on October 8th, which corresponds with the Jewish festival Sukkot.  On March, 20 2015 a solar eclipse will occur on Adar 29, the Jewish leap year.  On April 04, 2015 the third blood moon and yes it falls on the first day of Passover.  On September 13, 2015 a second partial solar eclipse falls on Rosh Hashanah which is the Jewish New Year and celebrates the creation of Adam and Eve.  The fourth blood moon occurs on September 28, 2015 and it falls on the Jewish festival Sukkot.  Can all this be coincidence?  I don’t think so.

You want to know what I think is very interesting.  This series of four blood moons is the only series that will happen during this millennium.  Let me say that another way.  There will not be another series of four blood moons anytime again until at least the year 3000.

These four blood moon series are not common, when they have happened, they happened on major Jewish events.  This is incredible.  God is speaking to us and we need to listen and be ready.

What I am curious about is what major event surrounding Israel will occur during the upcoming blood moon cycles?  Maybe a better question would be; what major even surrounding followers of Christ will happen between April 2014 and September 2015?  We don’t know the time, the day, or the hour when Christ will come again, but Jesus did say that we will know the time is near by the signs in the heavens, just as when we know the seasons are coming by the sings of the trees.

If you haven’t already, reach out and ask Jesus into your life as your savior and repent.  Jesus will come into your heart if you let Him, and He will change your life.  God Bless.
